In the heart of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park, in the Massif du Caroux, you find a unique place...

Whether you are a hiker, climber or simply in love with remarkable landscapes, come and discover this exceptional natural site!

Since 1993, the Gorges d'Héric and a large part of the Caroux massif have been a listed site.

Stroll along the stream, discovering the many waterfalls and chasms.
Thanks to an interpretation trail along the road, discover the richness and diversity of the fauna and flora. Signs inform you, question you... The answers as well as additional information on the geology and history of the site and the stream can be found in the "booklet of the Gorges d'Héric" on sale for 3€ at the Tourist Office.
Don't forget to pick it up before you start your walk in the Gorges!

The walk to Héric is on foot, simply following the road (only vehicles from the inhabitants of the small hamlet of Héric are allowed, so there is very little passage, don't worry). Count 5 kilometres and 315 m of positive height difference.
It takes about 1h30 walking normally, 2 hours including breaks for observations.
The return journey is by the same route (about 3 hours round trip).
Ideal walk for families, accessible with strollers.
It is one of the most spotlight spots in the Hérault to enjoy your picnic sitting on the rocks with the sound of water.

The Gorges d'Héric are also a place where you can access the water (Warning, swimming is not supervised, under your responsibility). Many take advantage of the fine weather to cool of in the natural pools.

Join the charming hamlet of Héric, typical of the local architecture, with its small stone houses with slate roofs and chestnut frames, narrow alleys and terraces.

From Mons-la-Trivalle, follow the signs for the Gorges d'Héric. The site is free and accessible all year round. A car park is at your disposal: paying on Easter weekend and from 15 April to 15 September : 3,50€ car - 1,50€ motorbike. ( No credit card).
Parking lot is managed manually at the entrance. In season, the Snack Loulette welcomes you on site. You also find there picnic tables, toilets, water points ...
Please respect the area and take your trash with you.

Be careful if you go off the Gorges road, many hiking trails exist, you must take a detailed map with you (available at the Tourist Office).

Did you know?
Early in the morning or at dusk, you may have the chance to observe mouflons, which are numerous in the Caroux. The Corsican mouflon was introduced here in 1956 and has acclimatised very well in this southern mid-mountain area. It now has the largest population in France.

Many walks are possible from the site, the "Sentier des Gardes", accessible from the bridge of Sighs, it allows you to reach the viewpoint of Caroux in 2h30 (Attention vertical drop: 800m D +) . We advise you to leave with a detailed map.

The Caroux massif also has many climbing rocks, from "school" sites to "adventure" sites, including equipped routes. Descriptions, levels of difficulty, detailed sketches are on the climbing guidebooks (on sale at the Tourist Office or directly on our online shop).
