Gorges D'Héric

Since 1993, the Gorges d'Héric, as well as a large part of the Caroux massif are a protected site.

From the parking lot of the Gorges in Mons, follow the drivable road on foot to the charming little hamlet of Héric (commune of Rosis) located at the top of the Gorges.
(motor vehicle traffic is prohibited except for residents and emergency services).

Stroll along the stream, discovering the many waterfalls and natural swimming pools.

A nature itinerary for everyone!

The climb to the hamlet of Héric is 5 km, or about 1h30 of normal walking, or 2h with breaks for observations, with about 300 m of positive elevation. The round trip, via the same path, takes about 3 hours (10 km in total).

It is ideal for families*, accessible with strollers and dogs kept on leashes. It is one of the most appreciated corners of Hérault to enjoy a picnic sitting on the rocks with the sound of water.

If you wish to take the walk by bike, stay attentive to pedestrians and slow down.

For people in a wheelchair, the walk is possible but some sections have a significant elevation change (sometimes over 20%). For more details, consult the guide "Mountains of Caroux for everyone". The itinerary is described on page 15

(*stay careful as there is no railing along the road).

A REFRESHING WALK!

The Gorges of Héric offer access to water, swimming is not prohibited but is not supervised. Be careful.

In summer, many visitors cool off in the natural pools, notably the Gouffre du Cerisier, located about 2 km from the parking area.

This site is a haven of peace, beautifully serene in every season: in spring, the waterfalls burst forth with force and the water is of dazzling clarity. In autumn, the landscapes are lit up with golden tones.

The charming hamlet of Héric, with its stone houses and narrow paved streets, reflects the local architecture.

GO FURTHER:

The Gardes Trail, accessible from the Passerelle des Soupirs* (to the right at the start of the Gorges), allows you to reach the orientation table of Caroux in 2h30 (reserved for the more athletic, elevation gain of 800m D+). Follow the markings of the 6 trail course.
*You leave the Gorges of Héric after the Passerelle.

Remember to bring a detailed map for your sports trails (via GR, PR, marked paths).
