Saint Jean de Dieuvaille Church

A little history

The church is located in the heart of wild gorges (classified as a protected site) in the hamlet of Gimios in Saint Jean de Minervois in the middle of nowhere.

Listed in 940, the current building mainly dates from the 16th and 18th century.

As early as the 14th century, the parishioners of Saint-Jean requested a priest to serve the church of Trou, and informed the Pope on a visit to the region.

At the beginning of the 18th century, the church was moved to the hamlet of Saint-Jean (now known as Saint-Jean-de-Minervois), while Saint-Jean-de-Dieuvaille remained a simple chapel.
