Mountain Nature Center of Caroux

PARTNERS

With a diversity of activities and preserved landscapes emblematic of the southern Massif Central, the territory "Montagnes du Caroux" was recognized as a Center for outdoor activities in late 2016 for the GIP (Public Interest Group) Massif Central. Just like the Grands Causses Park, the Aigoual massif, Mont Lozère, or the Monts du Forez...
A "title" that is a recognition of the dynamic that was put in place in 2015 and 2016, bringing together both private and public stakeholders*, to create a candidacy file containing about thirty actions for development, qualification, and enhancement of outdoor sports set up between 2017 and 2022, supported by FEDER funds.

One of the two objectives pursued by the Center for outdoor activities is to "live well" in the territory by ensuring the development of local practice, for everyone, in an eco-responsible spirit: training and awareness days around outdoor activities, opening outdoor sports sections in schools, creating a handisport center (Lamalou-les-Bains), environmental support for various sports practices, setting up new sports equipment (SAE St Pons /Olargues, climbing walls Mons and St Pons, trail space, via ferrata, rafting...).
One of the flagship actions is the development of a reception area dedicated to outdoor activities: the Maison des Montagnes du Caroux, located in Mons, where the Tourist Office and Hérault Sport services are based. Project realized with the Municipality of Mons-La Trivalle and La Poste.

  • Construction of the building realized by the Community of municipalities of Minervois in Caroux and financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), the Occitanie Region and the Hérault Department. This project is co-financed by the European Union. Europe is committed to the Massif Central with the European regional development fund.
  • Interior developments realized by the Community of municipalities of Minervois in Caroux and financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (LEADER program) and the Occitanie Region.

The second objective is linked to the economic development of outdoor sports by establishing a marketing plan under the banner "Montagnes du Caroux" and improving the welcome and services for outdoor sports practitioners and their companions:

  • Communication supports for outdoor activities by theme, specialized fairs, specialized press...
  • Information relays throughout the territory, online services to prepare outings
